Robert "Don" Arnold

Robert "Don" Arnold is co-founder of Arnold, Haynes & Sanders. Mr. Arnold graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1967. He has been practicing trial law and representing both plaintiffs and defendants for more than 40 years. In addition, Mr. Arnold is regarded as one of the most respected divorce attorneys in the area. In 1998, Governor Sundquist appointed Mr. Arnold as a special judge to the Tennessee State Supreme Court, and he is currently a sitting member on the Tennessee Supreme Court Advisory Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure. A former mayor of Johnson City and Tennessee State Senator, Mr. Arnold is well known for his zealous and effective representation of clients.

Olen Haynes, Sr.

A renowned trial attorney, Mr. Haynes is a frequent lecturer on trial tactics locally and throughout the state of Tennessee, including ‘masters in trial.’ Mr. Haynes is listed in Mid South Super Lawyers ® and as one of The Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury. Mr. Haynes has also been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers® whose membership is limited to less than 1 percent of the total lawyer population in the State of Tennessee. As the son of a Methodist minister, Mr. Haynes called many areas in Tennessee and elsewhere ‘home’ before settling in Johnson City permanently after graduation from law school. Mr. Haynes represents clients throughout Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and is a founding partner of Arnold, Haynes & Sanders. A past president of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (now Tennessee Association for Justice), Mr. Haynes has been practicing in the areas of personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, and aviation law for over 40 years. Mr. Haynes received his law degree in 1968 from the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville. Mr. Haynes has obtained some of the highest jury awards in the region in both state and federal courts.

Olen Haynes, Jr.

A graduate of Wofford College, cum laude, and the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, cum laude, Olen Haynes, Jr., began his law practice in the United States Navy ‘JAG’ Corps, refining his trial skills while prosecuting federal criminal cases. As a Lieutenant, Mr. Haynes received the Junior Officer of the Year award for TSO West, the prosecutorial command for the west coast of the United States. Mr. Haynes was also nominated for the ABA Outstanding Young Military Lawyer of the Year Award. The trial experience he accrued as a Navy prosecutor has proven to be an invaluable asset in pursuing jury awards and settlements on behalf of clients. After 'JAG', Mr. Haynes began his private practice with Arnold, Haynes & Sanders, dedicating his practice to trial work, including medical malpractice, auto/truck/motorcycle accidents, products liability, structural defects, and criminal defense. Mr. Haynes has been selected as one of the Mid South Super Lawyers, Rising Stars ® in Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury. With over 10 years of trial and litigation experience, Mr. Haynes remains actively involved in the community and his church. He currently serves as chairman of the board of directors for the Children’s Advocacy Center of the first judicial district. Jury Verdicts

  • Price v. Murray, M.D., et al. (United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Greeneville) – $3.2 million jury verdict awarded in case involving the failure to diagnose meningitis resulting in brain damage to an infant.
  • Rouse v. Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and others (United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee at Greeneville) – $1.2 million jury verdict awarded in case involving a failure to treat a teenager's hypovolemia while performing spinal surgery, resulting in cardiac arrest and death.
  • Burrow v. Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Brenda Crowder, M.D. (Circuit Court for Carter County at Elizabethton, Tennessee) – $1.67 million jury verdict awarded in a case involving a doctor's failure to recognize fetal distress in time to perform an emergency caesarian section and avoid brain injury to infant.
  • Glover v. Chambers, M.D., and Ibrahim, M.D. (Circuit Court for Carter County at Elizabethton, Tennessee) – $750,000 verdict awarded for failure to detect victim's bilateral shoulder separations after suffering a grand-mal seizure while recovering from orthopedic surgery. Injury resulted in permanent frozen shoulder syndrome.
  • Peters v. Jayne, Jr., M.D., and Bandian, M.D. (Law Court for Sullivan County in Bristol, Tennessee – Docket No. 4097B) – $430,000 jury verdict in case alleging that ACE® bandages were placed on plaintiff’s ankles too tightly during a breast augmentation, which resulted in an emergency decompressive surgery for compartment syndrome in lower extremities with resultant foot drop.
  • Adams v. Bazan (Law Court, Washington County – Docket No. 16693) – $498,750 jury verdict for automobile accident with hip injury.
